FOR THE PAST FIVE YEARS…
…The Pickleson Paint Co. has been all about colour. We’ve obsessed over pigments, perfect finishes, and the ways in which a single shade can transform a space. But we’ve rarely talked about the people behind the brand… Until now.
We’re Alex and Rachael, the duo behind Pickleson. We’re a couple, a team, and (until recently) Londoners. In 2020, we launched Pickleson, not entirely sure where it would take us. What began as a simple passion has since taken over our lives in the best way possible. It’s become an obsession, a vocation, and a gateway into a world of great design, thoughtful styling, good food, travel, disco, dancing in the kitchen and all the little details that turn a house into a home. It is - I suppose - an extension of everything that we love.
Now, we’ve created Pickleson Home: a new space where we can share a little more of what inspires us.
A few weeks ago, we swapped the city for the South West, moving into our first home together—a semi-detached Victorian house in Somerset.
We moved in the way we seem to do most things—with a questionable mix of excitement, blind optimism, and a total lack of practical preparation. We were welcomed with lashing sideways rain as we ferried endless boxes through the front door. The house was colder inside than it was out, and we very quickly became aware of all the things we’d somehow managed overlook during viewings—peeling wallpaper, ancient electrics, the faint but unmistakable scent of damp. We stood in the middle of it all, surrounded by chaos and cardboard, wondering where on earth to begin. It was a lot.
But now, as the days stretch a little longer and the spring sunshine starts creeping through the rancid old curtains, something has shifted. Like all old houses, it has its quirks (some charming, some… less so), but it’s beginning to feel like ours.
As we take on this project, @picklesonhome will be a place to document the process: the colours we choose, the ideas we try, and the lessons we learn along the way. We’ll share styling advice, ask for your input on what will work, and offer recommendations on everything we love—from local restaurants to, booze, music and the best places for a weekend escape.
And then there’s Patchos—weighing in at one foot nothing and a little bit long, he is our pride and joy. Our good time boy from Greece. We met him whilst on holiday a couple of years ago in a shelter, bought him home with us and fell madly in love. You’ll be seeing a fair amount of him.
You may have noticed that our @picklesonpaint Instagram feed is filled with impossibly beautiful spaces—homes that feel almost dreamlike in their perfection. Inspiration there often comes from a place of ambition, of striving for something that really very few people (us included) could ever hope to afford. But Pickleson Home is about the reality of creating a space we love, in a house that is very much lived in. This is a chance to show how our colours work in real homes—not just those owned by gorgeous millionaires, but in places where people, pets, and everyday life leave their mark.
We’ve always believed that colour is personal. The way we decorate our spaces is a reflection of who we are. Pickleson Home (our home) is an extension of that idea—a way to open the door a little wider and welcome you in.
So, whether you’re here for the behind-the-scenes glimpses, the home inspiration, or to slag off the soft furnishings and questionable art, we’d love to have you along for the ride.
