Stavros Blue

£2.50

“Oh, that’s just typical, isn’t it? A British couple goes to Greece on holiday, gets inspired by the scenery, and the best name they can come up with is ‘Stavros.’ It's lazy. It's farcical. It's a PR disaster, that’s what it is!”

Well… you’re not entirely wrong—but hear us out.

Stavros is the Greek word for ‘Cross.’ On the tiny, beautiful island of Skiathos—where we stumbled upon this shade—locals have a centuries old tradition during Holy Week. They carry a flame from the town church, through the windy, uneven streets, and mark a cross above their doorways to bless the house and ward off evil.

What’s more, we learned that the shades of blue painted on the woodwork of the island’s homes often symbolise the life stage of the people living there. Lighter blues represent young families starting their journey, while deeper cobalt hues represent those in the autumn of their lives.

As a couple enjoying the summer of ours, we found that idea absolutely charming. Yamas!

Pair Stavros Blue with Just White for a classic Greek vibe, use it alongside Open Sesame or Lyme Stone to go a bit ‘Coastal Grandma’, create a sophisticated modern palette with Skye Blue and Ned Redor combine with Jurassic Black or Boujee Blue for a bold nautical theme.

Pickleson Sample Cards are recyclable and have been hand-painted onto a responsibly sourced material.
